UHMWPE as an engineering plastic with good performance,  UHMWPE almost concentrates the advantages of all kinds of plastics. UHMWPE  has unparalleled wear resistance and resistance Impact, self-lubricating, corrosion resistance, impact energy absorption, low temperature resistance, sanitary and non-toxic, not easy to adhere, not easy to absorb water, low density and other comprehensive properties. In fact, there is no one polymer material with so many excellent properties.



UHMWPE Abrasion resistance

The wear resistance of UHMWPE ranks first among plastics and exceeds certain metals. Compared with other engineering plastics, the abrasion sand slurry of UHMWPE is only 1/5 of PA66 and 1/10 of HEPE and PVC; compared with metal, uhmwpe wear resistance is 1/7 of carbon steel, 1/27 of brass. Such high abrasion resistance makes it difficult to test the degree of abrasion resistance by the general plastic abrasion test method .The wear resistance of UHMWPE is directly proportional to the molecular weight. The higher the molecular weight, the better the wear resistance.


UHMPWE Impact resistance

The impact strength of UHMWPE is among the best among all engineering plastics. The impact strength of UHMWPE is about 2 times that of impact-resistant PC, 5 times that of ABS, and more than 10 times that of POM and PBTP. The impact resistance is so high that it is difficult to break it using the usual impact test method. Its impact strength increases with the increase of molecular weight, reaching the maximum when the molecular weight is 1.5 million, and then gradually decreases as the molecular weight continues to increase. It is worth pointing out that it can also maintain excellent impact strength in liquid nitrogen (-195°C), which is not available in other plastics. In addition, it has a higher surface hardness after repeated impacts.


UHMWPE Self-lubricating

UHMWPE has an extremely low friction factor (0.05~0.11), so it has excellent self-lubricating properties.UHMWPE is 1/2 of PA66 and POM under water lubrication conditions, which is second only to the best self-lubricating polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) in plastics under non-lubrication conditions; When it works in sliding or rotating mode, it has better lubricity than steel and brass with lubricating oil. Therefore, in the field of tribology, UHMWPE is known as a friction material with ideal cost/performance.


Uhmwpe Chemical resistance

UHMWPE has excellent chemical resistance. In addition to strong oxidizing acids, it can withstand various corrosive media (acids, alkalis, salts) and organic media (except tea solvents) within a certain temperature and concentration range.  It has been immersed in 80 kinds of organic solvents at 20℃ and 80℃ for 30 days, there is no abnormal phenomenon on the surface, and other physical properties are almost unchanged.



UHMWPE Shock absorption

UHMWPE has excellent impact energy absorption, the impact energy absorption value is the highest among all plastics, so the noise damping performance is very good, and it has an excellent sound cut effect.


Low temperature resistance

UHMWPE has excellent low temperature resistance, and is still ductile at liquid helium temperature (-269°C), so it can be used as a low temperature resistant component in the nuclear industry.


Hygienic and non-toxic

UHMWPE is hygienic and non-toxic, and can be used in contact with food and drugs.


Non-sticky

The surface adsorption capacity of UHMWPE is very weak, and its anti-sticking ability is second only to the non-sticky PTFE in plastics, so the surface of the product is not easy to stick to other materials.


Low water absorption

UHMWPE water absorption rate is very low; generally less than 0.01%, which is only 1% of PA66, so it is generally not necessary to dry it before molding.

Compared with other engineering plastics, UHMWPE has a relatively low density.


Tensile Strength

Because UHMWPE has the necessary structural characteristics for tensile orientation, it has unmatched ultra-high tensile strength. Therefore, ultra-high elastic modulus and strength fibers can be prepared by the gel spinning method, and the tensile strength is as high as 3 ~3.5GPa, the tensile modulus of elasticity is as high as 100~125GPa; the specific strength of the fiber is the highest among all commercialized fibers so far, 4 times larger than carbon fiber, 10 times larger than steel wire, and 50% larger than aramid fiber.
